Bill Shaddix, traditional oil painter of the old and current West, was born in Oklahoma in 1931.His family moved to California and he attended Whittier High School where he received the only formal art training he ever had.
BIll enlisted in the Army during the Korean War, and in 1956 became deputy sheriff in orange County California. Painting occupied his spare time. In 1960 he began a full-time career as a professional artist,at first painting land and sea scapes in Southern California. As he became more successful he traveled through the Rocky Mountains and found new inspiration. He eventually moved to Arizona and themes featuring Indians and Cowboys appeared in his work and he established himself at the forefront of contemporary Western painters.
